About

Alessandro Turchi (1578-1649), also known as l'Orbetto, was an Italian Baroque painter who was born in Verona. He received his training in the workshop of the Veronese painter Felice Brusasorci and later traveled to Rome, where he studied under the painter Cavalier d'Arpino.

Turchi's work is characterized by its realism and attention to detail, as well as its use of dramatic lighting and chiaroscuro. He was particularly skilled at painting religious scenes and was known for his depictions of saints and martyrs.

One of Turchi's most famous works is The Denial of St. Peter, which is now housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The painting depicts the biblical story of Peter's denial of Jesus, and it is notable for its powerful depiction of emotion and its use of light and shadow.

Turchi was also a skilled portraitist, and he painted many portraits of notable figures of his time. His work was highly regarded during his lifetime, and he received many commissions from churches and wealthy patrons.
