Camille Pissarro was a French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter who lived from 1830 to 1903. He is known for his landscapes and scenes of rural and urban life, and for his influence on the development of Impressionism as an art movement.

Pissarro was born on the island of St. Thomas, which was then part of the Danish West Indies, and later moved to France to pursue his career as an artist. He was one of the founding members of the Impressionist movement and worked closely with other leading Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Pissarro's paintings are characterized by their loose brushwork and emphasis on light and color. He was particularly interested in capturing the changing effects of light and atmosphere in his landscapes, and often painted the same scene at different times of day or in different seasons.

Later in his career, Pissarro became interested in the Neo-Impressionist style, which emphasized the use of small dots or points of color to create a greater sense of luminosity and depth. He worked alongside other Neo-Impressionist painters such as Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.
