Charles Leickert was a Belgian-Dutch painter, born on September 22, 1816, in Brussels, Belgium, and died on December 5, 1907, in Mainz, Germany. He is best known for his atmospheric winter landscapes, which often feature frozen canals and snow-covered trees.

Leickert began his career as a scene painter for theaters in Brussels, but he later turned his attention to painting landscapes. He moved to Amsterdam in 1848, where he became known for his paintings of Dutch winter scenes. He later settled in Mainz, Germany, where he continued to paint landscapes for the rest of his life.

Leickert's paintings are characterized by their fine attention to detail and their atmospheric quality. He was particularly adept at capturing the subtle variations of light and shadow that occur in winter landscapes. His paintings often feature a muted color palette, which emphasizes the stark beauty of the winter landscape.
