About

Egon Schiele (1890-1918) was an Austrian painter known for his expressionist style and his intense, often erotic depictions of the human form. He was born in Tulln, Austria, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

Schiele's works are characterized by their angular, distorted forms and their bold use of line and color. He often portrayed his subjects in a confrontational, direct manner, and his paintings often explored themes of sexuality, mortality, and the human psyche.

Schiele was part of the Vienna Secession movement, a group of artists who sought to break away from the academic traditions of art and embrace new forms of expression. He was also influenced by the work of Gustav Klimt, another prominent Austrian artist of the time.

Schiele's life and career were cut short by his early death from the Spanish flu in 1918, at the age of 28. Despite his brief career, he left behind a powerful legacy, and his works continue to be celebrated for their raw emotional intensity and their radical approach to representation.
