About
Fleurs, Fruits et Feuillages Choisis de l'Île de Java is a book published in 1880, featuring illustrations of flowers, fruits, and foliage from the island of Java. The illustrations were painted from life by Berthe Hoola van Nooten, a Dutch artist who spent many years in Java.
The book contains 60 hand-colored lithographs of various plants found on the island of Java, each accompanied by a brief description of the plant in French. The lithographs were printed by P. Depannemaeker and C. Muquardt, both well-known lithographers of the time.
Berthe Hoola van Nooten was an accomplished artist and naturalist, and her illustrations are noted for their accuracy and attention to detail. She lived in Java with her husband, a Dutch government official, and spent many years exploring the island and documenting its flora and fauna.
