About
Gustave Caillebotte was a French painter who lived from 1848 to 1894 and was an important figure in the Impressionist movement. He was born into a wealthy family and studied law before turning to art.
Caillebotte's paintings are known for their bold compositions and use of perspective, often featuring scenes of modern life in Paris, such as streets, bridges, and train stations. He was particularly interested in exploring the effects of light and movement on urban landscapes.
Caillebotte was also a patron of the arts and helped to finance many of the Impressionist exhibitions. He was a close friend of several of the other Impressionist painters, including Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Despite his contributions to the Impressionist movement, Caillebotte's work was largely forgotten after his death and was not widely recognized until the 20th century.
