About

Jiro Takeuchi (1891-1977) was a Japanese painter, printmaker, and illustrator born in Tokyo who studied painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, where he later became a professor. He was known for his portraits, landscapes, and genre scenes, which were influenced by traditional Japanese painting techniques as well as Western art movements like Impressionism and Fauvism.

Takeuchi also created numerous illustrations for books and magazines, often depicting scenes from everyday life. He was particularly renowned for his depictions of children, which were marked by a sense of innocence and joy.

Takeuchi's work was exhibited extensively during his lifetime, including at the Tokyo Fine Arts Exhibition (now known as the Japan Art Exhibition) and the Salon d'Automne in Paris. His legacy as an artist has had a lasting impact on Japanese art, particularly in the realm of printmaking and illustration.
