Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was a Dutch Baroque painter who is regarded as one of the greatest artists in history. He is best known for his exquisite, luminous paintings that often depict scenes of everyday life, such as domestic interiors, street scenes, and portraits.

Vermeer's work is characterized by its incredible attention to detail, use of light, and subtle color palette. He was a master of technique and his paintings exhibit a remarkable level of realism. Vermeer's most famous works include Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Milkmaid, and The View of Delft.

Despite his immense talent, Vermeer was not widely recognized during his lifetime and his work was largely forgotten after his death. It wasn't until the 19th century that his work was rediscovered and he became recognized as a major artist. Today, Vermeer is considered a key figure in the Dutch Golden Age of painting and his influence can be seen in the work of countless artists who came after him.
