About

A Monograph of the Ramphastidae, or Family of Toucans is a book written and illustrated by the renowned 19th-century ornithologist John Gould, published in several parts between 1828 and 1838. The book is a comprehensive study of the toucan family Ramphastidae, which includes about 40 species of birds found in the tropical regions of Central and South America. Toucans are known for their large, colorful bills, which are used for a variety of purposes, including feeding, thermoregulation, and communication. They have short, stocky bodies and are generally arboreal, spending much of their time in trees. Toucans primarily eat fruit, but also consume insects, lizards, and other small prey.
