About
The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahamas is a two-volume work authored by the English naturalist Mark Catesby and published in 1731 and 1743. The work is an important early contribution to the study of the natural history of North America, and contains detailed descriptions and illustrations of the flora and fauna of the region.
Catesby traveled extensively throughout the American colonies between 1712 and 1726, collecting specimens and making observations on the natural world. His work was based on these observations and collections. The illustrations were highly regarded for their scientific accuracy, and helped to popularize the study of natural history in Europe.
