Born in 1840, Harriet Miner pursued higher education at Oberlin College in Ohio in 1860. She had a talent for painting and taught others how to paint portraits and landscapes. Her works, particularly those of flowers and orchids, were in high demand and often displayed in homes in Syracuse. Harriet's dedication to botanical illustration led her to become a self-taught botanist, mastering the art of capturing floral details in her paintings. Sadly, Harriet fell ill during the last four years of her life, and she passed away from pneumonia on February 23, 1895, at the age of 55.
