About

Animalia nova sive Species novae lacertarum quas in itinere per Brasliliam  is the Latin title of this text, which translates to "New animals or new species of lizards collected during the journey through Brazil."

Johann Baptist von Spix was a German biologist and explorer who led a scientific expedition to Brazil from 1817 to 1820, commissioned by Maximilian Joseph I of Bavaria. During the expedition, Spix and his team collected numerous specimens of plants, animals, and minerals, which were later described and illustrated in several scientific publications, including Animalia nova sive Species novae lacertarum.
