About

The art series "Stations of the Tokaido" is a collection of woodblock prints created by the Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige in the mid-19th century. The series consists of 55 prints, each depicting a scene from one of the stations along the Tokaido, which was the main road connecting Tokyo (then called Edo) and Kyoto. The prints are characterized by their vivid colors, striking compositions, and intricate details, which capture the beauty and diversity of the landscapes, people, and customs along the Tokaido. The series is considered one of the masterpieces of ukiyo-e printmaking and has had a profound influence on Western art, particularly on the Impressionists, who were inspired by Hiroshige's use of color and composition.
