About

The Anatomy of Humane Bodies Drawn After Life is a medical book written by English anatomist William Cowper and published in 1737. The book includes 114 copper plates that illustrate the anatomy of the human body, drawn from life and engraved with great detail. The illustrations are accompanied by extensive explanations of the structures and functions of the body, including many new anatomical discoveries and surgical observations.

The book also includes an introduction that explains the animal economy, or the physiological processes that occur in the human body. This section provides a comprehensive overview of the basic principles of anatomy and physiology, and serves as a foundation for the more detailed discussions that follow.

One of the unique features of The Anatomy of Humane Bodies is its use of detailed illustrations to supplement the text. The copperplate engravings are highly detailed and provide a visual representation of the structures and systems of the human body. The plates are organized by anatomical region, allowing readers to easily find and study specific areas of interest.

The book was well-received by the medical community and is considered an important work in the history of anatomy. It was heavily influenced by the earlier work of Dutch anatomist Govard Bidloo and was later expanded upon by Dutch anatomist Christiaan Bernard Albinus, who created a larger and more comprehensive version of the book.
