About

Historia Naturalis Testaceorum Britanniæ, or The British Conchology is a book written by Emanuel Mendes da Costa and published in 1778. The book is a comprehensive study of the shells found in Great Britain, including both marine and freshwater species.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part provides an overview of the study of conchology, including its history and the various tools and techniques used in the field. The second part is a detailed description and classification of the various species of shells found in Great Britain.

The descriptions of the shells include information on their size, shape, coloration, and other distinguishing features, as well as their distribution and habitat. The book also includes detailed illustrations of the shells, many of which are hand-colored.
