About

The Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala was authored by James Bateman and Charles Curtis, with illustrations by Sarah Ann Drake.

Published in six volumes between 1837 and 1843, The Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala is a seminal work on the orchids of these two Central American countries. It contains descriptions and illustrations of over 400 species of orchids, with detailed notes on their habitats, distribution, and cultivation.

James Bateman was a noted horticulturist and orchid collector of his time, while Charles Curtis was a botanist who specialized in the study of orchids. Sarah Ann Drake was a skilled botanical illustrator who contributed the beautiful hand-colored lithographs that accompany the text.
