About
Thomas Blinks (1853-1912), a British artist from the Victorian era, was renowned for his depictions of hunting, racing, and dogs. Despite initially apprenticing as a tailor, Blinks followed his passion for painting and drawing, and spent much of his time studying horse anatomy at a local horse auction market. He had no formal training but made his exhibition debut in 1881 at the Dudley Gallery, and continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy until his death in 1910. Blinks' works were admired for their anatomical accuracy, particularly in the depiction of horses and dogs. His skill at capturing the pose and psychology of working canines earned him much recognition, though he also received portrait commissions from esteemed members of high society. However, it was his hunting scenes that solidified his fame.
