About

Utagawa Yoshikazu (active c. 1850-1870) was a Japanese artist and printmaker who was active during the late Edo period and the early Meiji period. He was a member of the Utagawa school, which was one of the most important and influential schools of ukiyo-e woodblock printing.

Yoshikazu's prints were popular among both Japanese and foreign collectors during his lifetime. He was one of the first Japanese printmakers to have his works exhibited in Europe, where they were highly regarded for their technical skill and artistic quality.

Like many other Japanese printmakers, Yoshikazu's career was interrupted by the decline of the ukiyo-e industry in the late 19th century and the rise of new printing technologies. However, his prints remain highly sought after by collectors and are considered important examples of the ukiyo-e style.
