About

Watanabe Seitei (1851-1918) was a Japanese artist who specialized in the traditional painting styles of Nihonga and Ukiyo-e. Born in Edo (modern-day Tokyo), he initially trained as a samurai but later turned to art, studying under various masters in the traditional Japanese painting styles. Watanabe Seitei is known for his depictions of birds and flowers, landscapes, and genre scenes, which are characterized by their intricate detail, delicate brushwork, and subtle use of color. He was also skilled in the art of woodblock printmaking and designed several ukiyo-e prints throughout his career. In addition to his artistic achievements, Watanabe Seitei was also a respected teacher and played an influential role in the development of modern Japanese art.
